KABUL (SW): The Afghanistan Investment Support Agency (AISA) has underlined a set of issues, which are hindering investment in the country.
Muhammad Qurban Haqjo, Head of AISA said in a press conference on Saturday that a number of factors pose serious challenges toward investments in the country. He noted that AISA worked hard in the past eleven days to identify these issues.
He said main issues in this regard include lack of a comprehensive strategy towards attracting investment, dearth of coordination among the government institutions and the private sector, rampant corruption at the customs and municipalities, lack of proper infrastructure like roads, railways and industrial parks, and complex system of tax and permits.
Head of this government organization mentioned that some $ 590 million were invested in the country in 2015, which showed 30 percent decreases in comparison with the previous year. Haqjo warned that if the government did not pay attention to these challenges seriously, Afghanistan would be faced with severe economic recession.
He also said that the worrying security situation and ongoing fighting in various parts of the country has left its marks on the level of investment in the country. Muhammad Qurban Haqjo mentioned that AISA has also identified a number of solutions to pave way for attracting investment in the country.
