QALA-I-NAU (SW): A local warlord in Badghes province has torched down more than 85 homes in the Jond district.
Members of provincial council told Salam Watandar a group of armed men associated with warlord Mula Gul Mohammad have torched more than 85 homes in Jond district, including the residence of Khan Mohammad Allahyar, a former provincial senator.
Khan Jan Zafar, provincial council member, said the incident took place late on Monday evening in the Pai Jan, Aab Khaza and Mina Baam villages of the Allahyar neighborhood in the Jond district. “The incident took place due to tribal and local feuds between the local commander and the residents”, added Zafar. According to this provincial council member, the residents have been taking refuge in the nearby villages of Jond district due to the conflict.
Meanwhile, Zahir Bahand, provincial governor’s spokesman, has said only 6 homes have been burnt in this ongoing dispute. “The incident took place in the Taliban controlled areas”, informed Bahand.
The former senator’s residence is located in close proximity to the center of the Jond district adjacent to Ghor province where a number of armed groups are active.
