
KABUL (SW) – A U.S. service member got killed in Afghanistan in action on Monday, an official statement confirmed.
According to the NATO-led Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan, in accordance with U.S. Department of Defense policy, the name of the service member killed in action was being withheld until 24 hours after notification of next of kin is complete.
The Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahed claimed the insurgents killed the American soldier in Kunduz province. With the latest killing, the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Afghanistan this year has surged to 20.
There are some 12,000 U.S. soldiers present in Afghanistan to train, assist and advise the Afghan forces.
