VP Dostum warned against contempt of authorities

21/01/2017

KABUL (SW): The 1st Vice President Abdul Rashid Dostum has been reluctant to reply a number of legal notices issued by the Attorney General's Office (AGO) to him in connection with the Ischi case.

In December last year, former governor of Jawzjan province Ahmad Ischi blamed the VP for ordering his ‘rape with an assault rifle’ and other forms of torture after he was allegedly abducted.

Jamshid Rasooli, AGO spokesperson, told Salam Watandar, the AGO has dispatched letters requiring Abdul Rashid Dostum to give further clarification on the ‘Ahmad Ishchi’ matter. But, the VP’s office has not responded to any inquiry or letter of the AGO, he said. “If the contempt continues, the investigation committee in-charge of looking into the probe will take legal action”, warned Rasooli.

Abdul Karim Ranjbar, an expert on legal affairs, expressed that based on the legal system of the country, the court has the authority to pass sentence in absentia.

Salam Watandar wished to have the views of Dostum’s Junbish party on the matter, but to no avail.
