Violations of the Constitution deplored

KABUL (SW) – The Lawyers Union of Afghanistan on Wednesday lamented the Constitution has rampantly been violated in the tenure of National Unity Government.

This was said at a gathering marking the 15th anniversary of the Constitution. Subhan Misbah, member of the LUA, said on the occasion the NUG officials have violated 122 of the 164 Articles of the Constitution. He said under such circumstances the anniversary of the Constitution should be mourned instead of celebrating it.

Meanwhile, acknowledging the violations of the Constitution, Abdullah Abdullah, chief executive officer of the NUG, stressed the government is committed to respect and honor it.

Addressing a separate gathering in this connection, Abdullah said the presidential polls have been delayed – labeled by the lawyers as violation of the Constitution – for few months for the sake of ensuring transparency. The CEO said a number of public entities have been dissolved in line with the Constitution, and this matter would be discussed with the Commission for the Oversight of the Constitution.

Qasim Hashimzay, chairman for the Commission for the Oversight of the Constitution, said implementation of the Constitution has been a problematic course. He said all three pillars of the state must cooperate for the implementation of the Constitution in true spirit.
