KABUL (SW): Hundreds of cricket fans warmly welcome their national heroes on return from Zimbabwe after a victorious trip.
Afghanistan first over powered the International Cricket Council’s full member in a five-match One Day International series 3-2. Later, the visitors defeated the hosts in a two-Twenty 20 matches. Cheering fans were celebrating on the streets in Kabul from the Hamid Karzai International Airport till the Afghanistan International Cricket Stadium.
The landmark victory over ICC’s full member has given much needed boost to the emerging Afghan squad among the cricket playing nations. Prospects of Afghanistan getting the ICC full status have also improved following this victory.
In the last T20 match on Wednesday, the hosts clinched a nail biting victory chasing a phenomenal target of 191 runs in the given 20 overs. Usman Ghani and Gulbadin Naib scored impressive half-centuries to see their side through.
Mohammad Nabi was the star in Afghanistan’s ODI series win over Zimbabwe. The former captain proved his mettle by scoring his maiden hundred followed by a half-century in the final match of the series. He was crowned as the Man of the Series for his 223 runs and 2 wickets in five matches.
