Saba promises new museum to preserve Mes Aynak artifacts

PUL-I-ALAM (SW): Daud Saba, Minister of Mines and petroleum has promised to establish a dedicated museum for Mes Aynak archaeological artefacts dating back around 5000 years.

The heritage at the Mes Aynak has been an issue of concern for quite a while now with the government eager to proceed with mining copper here while rights group fearing the heritage might get damage.

In an exclusive interview, Saba, said the museum would be established in collaboration with Ministry of Information and Culture in Mohammad Agaha district in Logar. He added that 40 hectares of land has been allocated for this museum and the construction work would be completed within a year.

Meanwhile, Abdul Bari Jahani, Minister of Information and Culture, underlined on the occasion that it has been a while since the ancient relics from Logar and other parts of the country have been smuggled abroad or have been damaged due to carelessness.

About the construction of the museum in Logar, Jahani said that the relics would be carefully gathered to be put on display.

Mohammad Halim Fedayee, Governor of Logar, expressed optimism about the move. He has also asked the Ministry of Information and Culture to bring all relics belonging to Logar but kept in Kabul museum back to the new museum.

Welcoming the move, residents in Logar have urged the government to closely monitor the drilling work carried out by the mining company in Mes Ayanak area.
