
JALALABAD CITY (SW): Unknown armed assailants riding a motorcycle have shot a woman dead in Jalalabad, Nangarhar province.
Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman for the provincial governor, told Salam Watandar the woman was resident of the second district in the capital Jalalabad city, and succumbed to injuries on Tuesday. The spokesman said investigations into the killing have commenced.
Sources at the Jalalabad regional hospital informed the victim lost her life due to deep bullet-wounds late in the night following the attack. An eye witness Shah Mohammad Zaman said the attackers opened fire on the ‘burqa’ wearing woman who was on her way home with her husband and two children near the Bazazay Mosque area. He claimed policemen were present in the area, still the attackers riding a motorcycle managed to flee.
Targeted assassinations are on the rise in Nangarhar. A day earlier, armed men shot a religious scholar dead in the Chaparhar district of the province.
Meanwhile, a 17-year-old girl has reportedly committed suicide in Takhar province’s Bahauddin district. According to Khalil Asser, spokesman for the police headquarters, the girl was engaged, and the reason behind the suicide is not known yet.,
