
FARAH CITY (SW) – A number of Farah Provincial Council members have confirmed the Taliban have killed at least 30 members of the security forces in Farah province.
According to the officials, the rebels staged coordinated assaults in Farah City, and Bala Bulook and Push Koh districts last night.
Shah Mohammad Naeemi, deputy head of the Farah Provincial Council, said at least 30 members of the forces got killed in the Taliban attack on a battalion on the Herat-Kandahar highway in the Bala Bulook district. According to him, in other attacks, the Taliban inflicted more casualties, but no figures are available.
Khair Mohammad Norzai, a member of the Farah Provincial Council, said 45 security forces, including 15 soldiers and 20 policemen were stationed at this battalion in the Ab Khurmai area of the district that came under the Taliban attack.
He added that this joint army and police battalion was located in the Khak-e-Safaid Districts district, and was transferred to the Ab Khurmai just three days ago.
Mohabullah Moheb, spokesman for the police, has only confirmed the Taliban’s assaults, without confirming any death toll. According to him, the Taliban also suffered heavy casualties in this series of attacks.
Meanwhile, Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, has claimed six infiltrators helped them kill 30 security forces in Farah last night.
