Two years on, Khost airport remains deprived of facilities

KHOST CITY (SW): Two years on, the new airport in Khost remains deprived of proper terminals, primary roads or circular roads relying only on the runway strip.

In an evaluation meeting of the airport, Mirbat Mangal, member of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) from Khost, charged the previous government for embezzling funds earmarked for the project. “Together with the evaluation, inaugurate the airport with pleasure, but I have the dossiers of those with me who committed embezzlement and created hurdles in developing this airport”, he said.

Faizullah Ghamkhor, a local civil society activist, said on the occasion that the Khost residents are not happy with the state of the newly constructed airport. “We would not allow the inauguration of the airport as long as all of its work is not completed on best standards”, he vowed.

Mehmood Shah Habibi, director for civil aviation, said in his remarks that past should be buried, and no one would be allowed to commit corruption now. He promised all remaining works would be completed in three months.
