KABUL (SW): The selection committee of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) has shortlisted 3 out of nine candidates for the chairmanship of the electoral commission.
The committee introduced the names of Sayed Hafizullah Hashimi, Awal-ul Rahman Roodwal, and Abdul Qadir Zazi Watandost to the President during a meeting at the Arg on Thursday. These candidates were shortlisted on the basis of high marks they earned in written test and interview.
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said on the occasion that the leadership of the National Unity Government (NUG) will interview these 3 candidates at the earliest, and will announce its final decision regarding the appointment of IEC chairman as soon as possible.
The nine initial candidates were: Abdul Qadir Zazi Watandost, Secretary of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house), Noor Mohammad Noor, former spokesperson for the IEC, Ghulam Shah Adel Alizayee, Sayed Hafizullah Hashimi, Secretary of Mishrano Jirga (upper house), Popal Habibi, Ahmad Shah Zamani, Director of Finance and Administration at the Ministry of Defense, Awal-ul Rahman Roodwal, Director of IEC in Kabul, Mohammad Ismail Suhak, Assistant Police Chief of Kabul, and Abdul Hassib Latifi.
