KABUL (SW): The third round of nationwide anti-polio vaccination campaign kicked-off on Sunday.
According to the officials at the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), up to 9.9 million children would be administered the vaccine across the country, and 8.7 million would also receive Vitamin A drops.
Ferozuddin Feroz, Minister at the MoPH, said on the occasion that despite all troubles, particularly surging violence, up to 98 per cent children now have access to anti-polio vaccine. He added the third round of vaccination would go on for five days. He regretted that up to 90 thousand children in restive parts of Kandahar and Helmand provinces would miss this important vaccination drive.
According to the MoPH officials, six new positive cases of polio virus emerged in the count this year so far. Two of these cases were reported each from Kandahar and Helmand while one each from Kunduz and Zabul provinces.
