KABUL (SW) – The next round of talks between the U.S. and Taliban is set to resume on August 01, an official said on Monday.
The deputy spokesman for the High Peace Council, Assadullah Zaheri, told Salam Watandar that Zalmay Khalilzad, the U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation on Sunday met Abdul Karim Khalili, HPC chairman. He said the two discussed the nature of proposed talks.
According to Zaheri the two leaders stressed it is the right time to take best advantage of the available opportunity for peace and called for streamlining all efforts in this regard. The HPC deputy spokesman said Khalilzad is set to resume talks in the Qatari capital, Doha with the Taliban on August 01.
He added a trilateral Ulema conference of religious scholars from Afghanistan, Indonesia and Pakistan is also planned to take place in Jakarta next month. Zaheri added a visit to Pakistan by the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan is also on the cards.
