TAKHAR (SW): Fawzia, a woman from Herat who was forced by his father to marry at the age of 20, had been divorced after 20 years of suffering in her marriage.
In a conversation with Salam Watandar, Fawzia said that after she got divorced from her husband, her parents had already passed away and her brother refused to shelter her in his house.
According to her, after she was rejected by her brother, she went to Takhar to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She lived with them in Namak Froushi area of Taliqan in Takhar, though; her son-in-law kicked her out after she spent five months there.
According to her, she was once again without shelter, but, this time she was trapped.
Fawzia said that she met a man named Rahimullah in the Khusdeh area of Taliqan city who provided shelter to her; however, he has repeatedly raped her in exchange. She claimed that Rahimullah and two others, Amir Khan and Mehran, have sold her in the past two years; once in exchange for 10,000 AFN and twice in return for 100,000 AFN.
Fawzia added that the first time she was sold to a person named Atiqullah, a resident of Bagh Dasht in Warsaj district in Takhar who was dumb, and she fled from him after a year and a half.
She was sold to another person named Sayed Alam for the second time, and due to torture and violence against her, she flew away and since she had no other place to go, she had to return back to Rahimullah.
According to Fawzia, Rahimullah sold him for the third time to a person named Sultan. Because Sultan’s first wife has not brought him any children, Sultan agreed to marry her. However, after Sultan has heard her tragic stories, he handed her over to Takhar police two weeks ago.
Officials at the Directorate of Women’s Affairs in Takhar have considered Fawzia’s case as human trafficking.
