The number of tourists to Bamyan spikes this year

BAMYAN (SW): Although, most of the highways linking Bamyan to Kabul are insecure; however, the numbers of domestic and foreign tourists to visit Bamyan have increased this year in comparison to previous years. Thus, hotel business’ investors have shown interest to invest in Bamyan more than ever.

The officials at the Directorate of Information and Culture in Bamyan said that in 2017 about 400,000 domestic and foreign visitors have visited Bamyan to see the ancient, historical, and natural landscapes of this province.

Hussain Ahmadpour, head of Bamyan’s Directorate of Information and Culture told Salam Watandar that due to the increase in domestic and foreign tourists in Bamyan, investors have invested more than $20 million to build luxury hotels in this province.

According to Mr. Ahmadpour, recently along with ten traditional hotels, five standard hotels have been built in this province equipped with the modern facilities which have a direct impact on the local economy.

Kelley, an American tourist, who has spent some time in Bamyan told Salam Watandar that the hospitality, facilities, and security of these hotels have made it possible for most foreign tourists to come to Bamyan and visit their historic and ancient places. She believes Bamyan is one of the best touristic places in the world.

Uzra Lali, one of the local embroidery sellers, said that Bamyan’s hospitality and safe places have brought more foreign and domestic tourists to the province. ‘The launching of festivals and cultural programs in the province will bring people from all over Afghanistan which directly affects the sales of Bamyan embroidery and local handicrafts’, she added.

The hotel owners in Bamyan also ask the government to pay serious attention to securing Bamyan highways so that tourists can safely travel to Bamyan.

Bamyan was selected as the first cultural capital of SARC (South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation) in 2015, and have been hosting cultural festivals of Tanbora, Potatoes’ flower, and Silk Road each year.
