Teachers’ township ‘encroached upon’ in Takhar

TALUQAN (SW): Influential men in Takhar province have grabbed the township designated for the teachers in the Dasht-e-Qala district.

Bashir Basharat, one of the teachers, told Salam Watandar that the armed men grabbed the township with the support of the Dasht-e-Qala mayor and local warlord Syed Khairuddin. He charged the mayor for having longstanding ties with the armed men in the district.

A local official who wished not to be named informed that Syed Khairuddin has collaborated with the armed men in grabbing the teachers’ township.

Syed Inayatullah Naveed, interim head for the directorate of education, has acknowledged that the armed men have encroached upon the teachers’ township. He informed that up to 152 jeribs of land was allocated for teachers in the district, and 80 teachers were awarded with allotment letters the rest of land was not allotted yet. He noted that the armed men have encroached 20 jeribs of land designated for the teachers of Pangani High School in the area.

Meanwhile, Abdul Qayume Qaney, mayor of Dasht-e-Qala has rejected the allegations. He claimed that the land has been allocated on the directives of the President to the people displaced by earthquake. He said up to 500 jeribs of land was legally allocated to the earthquake victims near the teachers’ town that has sparked differences.
