
KABUL (SW): A library for brail readers has opened for the first time in Kabul on Wednesday.
The library called “Arman” is founded by Yasmin Mohammadi. The founder of the library said that the aim of the library is to increase the reading habit among visually impaired persons.
According to Yasmin Mohammadi, the woman who founded the brail library said, currently, 120 brail books in fiction and non-fiction categories along with 300 electronic books are available in the library.
She further added that the books to some extent will help the visually impaired persons in their reading. The students from Visually Impaired and Vocational High School in Kabul welcoming the initiative said that the library is beneficial for learning and will increase the knowledge of the brail readers.
Hasibullah, one of the students, said the library is beneficial for the students’ academic learnings and will solve their lack of libraries problem.
Maliha, another student, also said that utilizing the library the students can develop further and get their required information easily.
Mohammad Rahil Formuli, the deputy director for the technical and professional development directorate at the Ministry of Education, called the opening of the library a positive step. He assured that the Ministry of Education wants to make fundamental steps in order to improve education for the visually impaired persons.
Based on the information given by the Ministry, there are 11 schools for visually impaired persons which are not adequate.
