KABUL (SW) – A credible source informed Salam Watandar on Sunday the talks between the U.S and the Taliban in Qatar might extend for two more days.
The source asserted the reason behind extension of these talks is the Taliban’s persistent demand for the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan within a year. The source said the U.S delegation is insisting upon a withdrawal plan extending to for some years.
According to the source, the two sides have agreed that Afghanistan would not pose terrorism threats to any other country in the future. But, the final draft agreement would only be prepared when there is an agreement over the withdrawal plan.
It is stated the talks in Doha also touched upon the issue of ceasefire and direct talks between the Taliban and the Afghan government. The source said the Taliban are not willing to talk with the Afghan government, but would hold a second round of talks with the Afghan politicians in Qatar.
One of the former Taliban-era officials, Mohammad Hassan Haqyar, has said progress has been made in talks with the U.S delegation in the Qatari capital.
This comes amid reports about the former Afghan ambassador to Pakistan, Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal, and former deputy foreign minister, Hekmat Khalil Karzai, have also travelled to Doha.
The Afghan government has also urged political parties to nominate their representatives for potential talks with the Taliban.
