KABUL (SW) – Media reports suggest the Taliban and the U.S. are set to resume talks for the Afghan peace process in the Qatari capital, Doha on Monday.
Foreign minister of Pakistan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said on Sunday while talking to media in Multan that the U.S. Envoy Zalmay Khalilzad would meet the Taliban representatives in Doha today. He acknowledged many hurdles have emerged, but Pakistan seeks positive outcome of these talks.
A former Taliban-era official, Waheed Mujda, told Salam Watandar the U.S. Envoy would discuss with the Taliban the mechanism for participation of the official delegation from Afghanistan. He said the Americans are weary of growing impediments in the peace process in the wake of spring offensives announced by the Taliban and the counter-terrorism security plan announced by the Kabul government.
Afghan officials have not commented on today’s talks.
