
KUNDUZ CITY (SW) – A number of drivers in Kunduz have told Salam Watandar armed robberies have increased on the main highway in the province.
According to them, gunmen have erected checkpoints on the highway to steal money and other valuables from the passengers. They told, although police stations are only few meters away from the checkpoints of the armed robbers, but they do not show any reaction to the criminals.
Mohammad Najib and Bashir, two drivers, told Salam Watandar the armed robbers took away dozens of vehicles during the past 2 months.
Mohammad Yosuf Ayubi, head of the Kunduz provincial council, acknowledged the increase in highway robberies, and said it has alarmed people. He added these issues have been noted and shared with the higher authorities. Safiullah Mahzon, the security chief at the Kunduz police headquarters, said in this regard the armed robberies on this highway is related to the past. According to him the issue has been resolved.
Dozens of people pass through the part of this highway passing through restive Imam Sahib District to the Sher Khan port for travel to Tajikistan.
