PARUN (SW): The Taliban have turned health centers in Dwo Aab district and other restive parts of the Nuristan province into their military bases that has led to the death of a number of patients.
Residents of Dwo Aab have said the Taliban have shut the health centers as well as many roads in the province. This district remains under the control of the rebels. Mohammad Rasool, a local of the district, said he travelled to Nangarhar province to fetch medicines, but he could not return home since all of the main roads have been closed by the Taliban. “People are facing food shortages as well”, added Rasool.
Feda Mohammad, district chief of Dwo Aab, confirming the security problems in the province, said the Taliban have forced the doctors from 3 districts to flee, and have taken over the health centers. “It has been 2 months since Taliban have shut the health centers, and dozens of patients have died as a result of this”, added Mohammad.
Saddullah Payindazoy, head of provincial council, has acknowledged the Taliban have turned some of the health center into their military bases in Dwo Aab district. Meanwhile, Hafiz Abdul Qayyum, the governor, has assured that the government is planning military operations to wipe-out the insurgents from Nuristan. “We have plans to deploy the Afghan Local Police (ALP) to ensure security after the military operations in the restive parts of the province”, added Qayyum.
The Taliban have not commented on this so far.
