GARDEZ (SW): Armed militants stormed the New Kabul Bank (NKB) in Gardez, Paktia on Saturday leaving at least six people dead, including three attackers.
The NKB is a private bank franchised to distribute salaries among public sector employees. Abdul Wali, the governor, told journalists after the attack that all three attackers have been killed. More than 30 people got injured in this attack. Atiqullah, an eye-witness, told Salam Watandar he was at the bank to receive his salary when all of sudden firing erupted. He claimed an attacker was wearing police uniform.
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has condemned the attack. “The President condemns attack on Kabul Bank in Gardez as a cynical assault on Afghan people living their lives and doing business”, said Ghani’s official twitter handle. Ghani is in the Saudi capital Riyadh to attend an international summit to find ways and means to counter terrorism.
