
GHAZNI CITY (SW) – Groups of armed Taliban rebels stormed Ghazni city early on Friday from multiple directions, officials informed.
Naseer Ahmad Faqir, member of the provincial council, informed Salam Watandar the security forces are in control of the provincial administration compound and police headquarters, but intense clashes are underway in the city between the Taliban and the government forces. He acknowledged a number of check posts have been overrun by the rebels, but there are no confirmed figures available about the casualties.
Amanullah Kamrani, another member of the PC, said the Taliban torched a number of check posts after overrunning them.
Mohammad Khan Seerat, spokesman for the police in the province, too confirmed armed clashes are underway in different parts of the city.
