MAIMANA (SW): The Taliban militants have reportedly set a large quantity of food stuff and winter cloths on fire that were destined for needy persons in Kohistan district of the northern Faryab province.
A number of citizens in Kohistan district of Faryab, have claimed that the militants have burnt their foodstuffs and other belongings. The residents of the district said that while they were taking foodstuffs and other belongings form Qara-e-bazar of Almar district to their native areas, the Taliban stopped them in Qaram Qul area and burnt all of the supplies.
Habibullah, a Kohistan resident, stated that the locals wished to store things of basic need before winter, but the militants stopped the supply and burnt it. In a separate incident, the Taliban militants have set ablaze belongings of a woman named Bibi Saidiya. Bibi noted that she had shopped dresses and cosmetics for her daughter. She explained: “The insurgents stopped us in Sari Antan area and checked our bags thoroughly”. She added that the Taliban did not say anything to other male passengers, but started interrogating her and then after coming to know that I was from Kohistan district, they set my belongings on fire.
While acknowledging this very fact, Amanullah Zafar, the security chief for Faryab police, however, has said that the government would immediately take measures to resolve the security issues.
Food prices have dramatically jumped-up in the province. They said the for the time being, prices of a 50 kg bag of flour has jumped to 3000 afghanis, a 18 litter tin of ghee has jumped to 2500 afghanis, a kilo of sugar has jumped to 120 afghanis and one kg of gas has jumped to 150 afghanis.
The Kohistan residents noted that they have asked the government time and again to open and secure the highways connecting the district to Maimana, but to no avail. Kohistan district is under the Taliban’s siege since the last six months now.
