MAIMANA (SW) – Sibghatullah Sailab, deputy chairman of the Faryab provincial council, has said a military base in Ghormach district has fallen to the Taliban when no additional troops came for its rescue.
The deputy chairman of the provincial council said the soldiers in this military camp ‘Chenayhah’ were under the siege by the Taliban for the past 48 hours. He went on to claim this development is in line with the new U.S. strategy of abandoning remote outposts.
A number of soldiers have criticized the fall of this base, and have charged the government for ‘trading over their blood’. The soldiers fear fall of this military base pose direct threat to the 6th Battalion in the district center.
A well-placed source informed Salam Watandar the Taliban have warned this Battalion to surrender by 10:00 am, however, the besieged soldiers have asked for this deadline to be extended till 04:00 pm.
