PUL-I-KHUMRI (SW) – The Taliban insurgents in Baghlan have overrun Guzargah Noor district in the province, officials confirmed on Sunday.
According to the district governor, Abdul Hanan Andarabi, the insurgents staged coordinated assaults on the district from various directions last night. He said the Taliban torched the police compound and damaged a number of security vehicles. He added a policeman has been taken as captive and two more wounded by the Taliban.
The spokesman said with the arrival of additional troops and local uprising force, the district police headquarters have been retaken, however, clashes continue in the area.
Security sources told Salam Watandar the Taliban overran six security check posts and have reached to the center of Baghlan Markzai district.
This comes as interim heads of the ministries of defense and interior visited the province to assess security situation.
