KABUL (SW): A number of political experts believe that since the present Afghan government has failed to win the trust of international community and regional countries to a greater consent in the fight against Daesh, Russia has stepped in to collaborate with Taliban in this regard.
They believed that Russia would cooperate with the Taliban as Daesh pose serious threat not only to Afghanistan but to the Central Asia and Russia itself.
Daesh’s activities in Afghanistan, especially in the north of the country, has caused consternation in Russia. Russia has recently strengthened its military bases and presence in Tajikistan.
Zamir Kabulov, the Russian President’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan, has recently said that Russia and Taliban have common goals and currently exchange information with each other to curb Daesh.
Sergey Shoygu, Russian Defense Minister, in a meeting with his Tajik counterpart, has also said that Daesh’s presence is considered as new threat to Russia.
Kabul Khan Tadbir, a political affairs expert, told Salam Watandar that the Afghan government’s weakness in brining stability has been the reason for the regional countries to seek to join hands with the Taliban to fight against Daesh.
Ferdaws Kavoush, another analyst, said that Daesh is yet to have considerable presence in Afghanistan and it is the Taliban which are potential threat and that equipping them would be far dangerous.
It has been a year since Daesh’s presence in Afghanistan has attracted the attention of the world.
The Russian envoy to Afghanistan said that Afghan and Pakistan Taliban don’t accept and recognize Abubaker-ul-Baghdadi as their leader but government officials have constantly been saying that most of the Daesh fighters in Afghanistan are former Taliban fighters who have changed their white flags into the dark ones of Daesh.
