MAIMANA (SW) – The Taliban rebels managed to overrun Balcharagh district in Faryab province for the second time, an official said on Sunday.
Sibghatullah Sailab, deputy chairman for the provincial council, informed Salam Watandar up to 40 policemen have surrendered their arms, ammunition and resources to the Taliban, and the fate of the policemen is not known.
Elsewhere, officials in neighboring Garzivan district informed up to 4000 Taliban rebels have gathered around the district following the fall of Balcharagh. They warned of a human catastrophe if the government failed to address the situation immediately.
Earlier this week, the provincial administration announced to have formed a 2000 member local uprising force in the wake of the growing threats from the Taliban.
