MAIDAN WARDAK (SW) – At least 90 security forces were abducted by the Taliban rebels after storming security check posts in Maidan Wardak province, officials confirmed on Saturday.
Sharifullah Hotak, member of the provincial council, informed this incident took place in Jalrez district of the province last night. He said up to 11 check posts fell to the rebels after heavy clashes while 90 members of the security forces along with arms and ammunition were taken away by the Taliban.
Abdul Rehman Mangal, spokesman for the provincial governor, said in this regard the Taliban gathered hundreds of rebels from Maidan Wardak, Logar, Ghazani and Helmand provinces to wage this assault. He claimed the attacks have been repulsed by killing five rebels and wounding dozens of them.
Security operation is underway in Jalrez, he said.
