Taliban kill 25 security forces in 24 hours

KABUL (SW) – Officials in Kunduz, Uruzgan, Zabul, Jawzjan and Baghlan provinces said at least 25 security forces were killed and 13 others were wounded in the wake of recent Taliban attacks.

The Taliban have stepped up their offensives against Afghan security forces after ending ‘Reduction in Violence’ week and signing a peace agreement with the U.S.

Authorities, who did not want to be named in the report, told Salam Watandar at least 15 soldiers and three local policemen were killed and five others were wounded in Taliban attacks on check posts in Kunduz province. Kunduz police spokesman Hijratullah Akbari confirmed the Taliban killed the troops shortly after launching an operation last night.

Abdul Hadi Jamal, a spokesman for 217 Pamir Army Corps, confirmed the Taliban attacks, but did not confirm the exact number of casualties.

After Kunduz, the provinces of Uruzgan, Zabul, Jawzjan and Baghlan also witnessed Taliban attacks. Statistics from these provinces show that in the last 24 hours, 6 policemen in Uruzgan, 2 policemen in Jawzjan, one police officer in Zabul and one local police soldier were killed in Baghlan while 13 security forces got injured in these provinces.

Commenting on this, Interior Ministry spokesman Nusrat Rahimi wrote on his official Twitter page that in the past 24 hours, Taliban carried out 30 attacks against security forces and civilians in 15 provinces, killing 11 security forces and 4 civilians and wounding 18 security forces.

According to him, 17 Taliban militants were killed and 11 injured in this while.

The Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid has said attacks against the Afghan forces have resumed after signing of the peace deal with the U.S.
