MAIMANA (SW) – Members of Faryab provincial council claim the security forces have allowed the Taliban to have control over the Maimana – Mazar-e-Sharif highway.
Fazalul Haq Mohammadi, a member of the provincial council, said the operation Aisar-5 has failed to clear this important highway of the presence of the Taliban. Jan Mohammad and Jamaluddin, two residents of Faryab’s Khwaja Sabz Posh district, said the security forces have moved all check posts from this highway to the district center.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Haneef Rezaey, spokesman for the 209-Shaheen Corps, has rejected these allegations. He urged the PC members not to spread baseless rumors. He added the operation against the Taliban is still underway.
The Taliban’s clout over the Mazar-e-Sharif – Maimana highway surged in the past two years with the rebels often checking vehicles.
