GHOR (SW) – A number of Ghor provincial council members and residents have told Salam Watandar the Taliban have banned watching TV, shaving beards and girls’ schools in the Dawlatyar distirct.
The Taliban are active in many parts of the district, Hameedullah Mutahed, a member of the provincial council, said adding the rebels have also started collecting extortion money from the locals. This member of the provincial council said the rebels have also warned the locals against serving the government.
The residents of Dawlatyar have also expressed concerns about the presence of the Taliban.
However, spokesman for the governor, Abdul Hai Khatibi, has said they have not yet received a report on the Taliban enforcing such rules.
But, he did confirm that the Taliban are collecting money from the people in this district on the pretext of ‘Ushr and Zakat’.
The Dawlatyar district is located at a distance of 65 km from Ferozkoh city in the province on the Ghor – Kabul Highway. According to residents and members of the provincial council, the Taliban intend to turn the district into a base for attacks on other areas of Ghor.
