KABUL (SW) – The Taliban’s Qatar office spokesman has said efforts would be made to resolve final points of the peace accord with the U.S.
In late-evening tweet, Suhail Shaheen said talks between the U.S. and Taliban would resume this morning in the Qatari capital, Doha.
The top U.S. peace negotiator, Zalmay Khalilzad, special representative for Afghanistan reconciliation, has not commented in this regard.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump said at a press conference on the last day of G7 Summit in Biarritz, France, there is no timeline for US forces’ withdrawal from Afghanistan. He said “whatever it is”, there is “no rush”.
Withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan is one of the key points of the proposed peace agreement.
A day earlier, Sediq Sediqqi, spokesman for the presidency, said the parties involved in talks have not reached an agreement, and in case of agreement, the Afghan government would be taken onboard.
The ongoing ninth round of talks between the U.S. and Taliban began in Doha last week.
