KUNDUZ CITY (SW): Local officials in northern Kunduz province have said that currently 95 percent of Dasht-e-Archi district is under the Taliban’s control.
Nasiruddin Saadi, district chief in Dasht-e-Archi, told Salam Watandar that the militants conducted offensives with heavy and light weapons to capture the center of the district yesterday evening but their offensives were foiled by the security forces.
He said that during these offensives, 35 militants have been killed and 30 more have been injured.
He added that the Afghan Special Forces (ASF) have been deployed to expel the militants, and fully recapture the district.
Meanwhile reports suggest that sporadic fighting is still underway between the security forces and the Taliban insurgents in Qala-e-Zaal district in the province.
Mahbubullah Sayeedi, district chief in Qala-e-Zaal, has said that the Taliban still have control in some parts of the district.
Local officials in the province have said that during six-day fighting in Qala-e-Zaal, 75 militants have been killed and 32 more have been injured.
Taliban have claimed that during the fighting in Qala-e-Zaal and Dasht-e-Archi districts, they have inflicted heavy casualties upon the security forces, a claim discarded by the officials.
