
KABUL (SW) – A massive truck bombing jolted the capital Kabul on Monday killing at least four people and wounding more than 100.
The Ministry of Public Health spokesman, Waheedullah Mayar, told Salam Watandar the Green Village – a compound housing international aid agencies and a guest house for foreigners – was the target for the attack. According to him, 23 children and 14 women are among the 113 people who got wounded in the attack.
The MoPH spokesman said many people got hurt when roofs of their houses collapsed due to the intensity of the blast.
In the meantime, Nusrat Rahimi, deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, told reporters no foreign national is among the dead, and most of the victims are civilians. He said investigations into the attack are underway.
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has vehemently condemned the attack dubbing it inhuman and against the values of Islam. He also directed security officials to conduct thorough investigations into the incident.
The NATO has also condemned the attack, and extended condolences to the victims of the attack. In a statement, the NATO Deputy Senior Civilian Representative in Afghanistan, noted that the Taliban should shun violent attacks against civilians, and sit down for peace talks. It stressed the NATO is standing firm alongside the Afghan government and the security forces for the sake of creating enabling environment for peace in the country.
The Taliban have taken responsibility for the attack. In a statement, the rebels noted a suicide bomber ‘Motasim Logari’ carried out the assault.
