HERAT CITY (SW): The Taliban militants have publicly chopped off a man's hand and foot in Herat province.
According to the officials, the incident took place in the Oba district of the province. Jailani Farhad, spokesman for the provincial governor, told Salam Watandar the man was apprehended by the Taliban a month ago without any proof on the charge of stealing. He added the militants’ shadow courts issued the verdict to cut-off the man’s left hand and foot, and this was implemented on the spot.
Jailani Farhad added the hearing took place some 5 kilometers away from the district center in a mountainous area. He added the man’s health is stable, and the security forces are in search for the rebels who committed this crime.
The Taliban have acknowledged this act. Zabheullah Mujahid, spokesman for the Taliban, told Salam Watandar on mobile phone that the man named Ghulam Farooq was charged by the locals for stealing motorcycles and cars.
