GHAZNI CITY (SW): Security officials in central province Ghazni have said that the militants have suffered heavy casualties in Gilan district during an Afghan airstrike.
Aminullah Amarkheyl, police chief in the province, told Salam Watandar that the Afghan air forces targeted a Taliban training center in Gilan district on Monday inflicting heavy casualties upon the militants.
He said that 60 militants have been killed and 10 more have been wounded in the attack.
He said that the center served as a hub for the militants and was run by a Pakistani colonel Kamran and his deputy who were also killed in the airstrike.
He added that during the clashes between the militants and security forces in Andar district, 21 militants have been killed and 25 more have been wounded.
He further said that the insurgents came from Paktia, Paktika, Khost and Logar provinces in a bid to capture Andar district in the province but their attempts were foiled and counter attacked by the security forces.
Taliban have not commented on the incident so far but did claim that they have inflicted casualties upon Afghan security forces.
