PUL-I-KHUMRI (SW): The Taliban have blown-up an electricity transmission tower in Baghlan province resulting in blackouts in the capital Kabul.
This is the second time the transmission tower has been hit by the Taliban in Baghlan.
Sultan Ahmad Azizi, head of the Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) in Baghlan, informed Salam Watandar that the technical team deployed to fix the fallen tower is trapped due to fighting between the government forces and the Taliban. He said the repair work to restore power supply to Kabul has been halted.
The Taliban have also killed Mohammad Hassan Kashmi, head of a police station in Baghlan, in an ambush on the Kabul – Baghlan highway in the Doshi district. Ikramuddin Sareh, police chief in the province, has confirmed the killing of Kashmi. He informed to have launched security operation in the Doshi district against the Taliban.
According to the local officials, there are up to 700 transmission line towers in the province for importing electricity from Central Asia. Authorities in Baghlan believe the number of security personnel in the province is not sufficient to ensure safety of these towers.
