KABUL (SW): A number of civil society activists gathered in the capital Kabul on Thursday demanding the government to ensure peace across the country.

The participants particularly expressed grim concerns over ragging violence in Laghman, Helmand, Baghlan, Paktia and Kunduz provinces that has claimed so many lives. Attaullah Hairan, a civil society activist from eastern Laghman province said on the occasion that this province neighboring the capital Kabul is reeling from insecurity for quite a while now.

“If we stay quite over the deadly wars going on in the country, Afghanistan would turn into Waziristan”, he said. Hairan urged upon the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and his power-sharing Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah to set their differences aside and work together for peace and prosperity of the country.

The protestors also urged upon the Vice President Abdul Rashed Dostum that “if he does not have an agenda behind the fight against the militants”, he should go and lead anti-terrorism campaigns in the Helmand and other restive parts of the country.

Syed Kamal Wardag, an activist from northern Baghlan province said on the occasion that insecurity in this part of the country would affect a number of northern provinces. “The war in Baghlan has become an economic war now, if there is no peace here situation in Kunduz, Balkh, Panjshir and Takhar would also get affected", he said.

Civil society activists from southern Helmand province noted today that some 30, 000 families from various restive districts have moved to the provincial capital Lashkargah.
