GHAZNI CITY (SW): The Taliban have blocked roads in Ghazni province’s Qara Bagh district upon defiance by the locals towards payment of extortion money to them.
According to the locals, the mainly Hazara community residents of the district are boring the brunt of this blockade. Charging the government for not taking actions in this regard, the locals said persistence of the situation might inflame ethnic tension in the area.
Saheb Khan, governor of the district, has acknowledged that the Taliban have blocked some roads, but not all have been blocked.
Khaliq Dad Akbari, member of the provincial council, has said that the Taliban want to fuel ethnic rift with these ‘planned maneuvers’, while the officials with their weak administration are failed to stop it from happening. He feared the issue can spread all over the country.
