Taliban attack police headquarters in Baghlan

BAGHLAN (SW) – The Taliban insurgents stormed police headquarters in Baghlan province following a suicide car bombing on Sunday.

A well-placed source told Salam Watandar the insurgents are engaged in exchange of fire with the security forces inside the police headquarters.

Taqseer Andrabi, a commander of the Special Forces, said the insurgents have taken at least 10 security forces and civilians as hostage.

Abdul Aleem Ghafari, deputy head of the directorate of health, has confirmed at least four people got killed and 46 others got injured in this attack. He said most of the victims of this attack are security forces.

Spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, Nusrat Rahimi, told journalists in Kabul after the attack that the security forces killed two attackers in exchange of fire. He said the total number of insurgents storming the police headquarters was now known, but they were under the siege of the security forces.

Bordering Kabul to the south, the Baghlan province links the Afghan capital with the rest of northern parts of the country.

Claiming responsibility for the attack, the Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahed asserted dozens of policemen have been killed in this ongoing attack.
