KABUL (SW): Abdul Rab Rasool Sayaf, veteran Jehadi leader, on Thursday charged the Taliban as well as the government for tarnishing the image of Islam with their brutal terrorist activities and rampant corruption respectively.
He said this while addressing a moot in connection with the death anniversary of Burhanuddin Rabbani here. On this occasion, foreign minister Salahuddin Rabbani stressed upon timely execution of free and fair elections next year.
In his remarks, Sayaf said the Taliban as well as the government have dented the image of Islam with their deeds. Mohammad Mohaqiq, deputy to the chief executive officer, said on the occasion that the religious leaders of the country have the obligation to wage a campaign of wisdom against the terrorist groups that have tarnished the image of Islam with their actions.
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani’s message was read on the occasion. In his message, the President pronounced Burhanuddin Rabbani as a far-sighted politician, and underlined the need for peace in the country.
On his term, foreign minister Salahuddin Rabbani stressed all concerned offices should ensure timely execution of free and fair elections next year.
Burhanuddin Rabbani, former president and leader of the Jamiat-e-Islami party, was assassinated by a suicide bomber entering his home in Kabul on 20 September 2011 on the pretext of brokering peace talks with the Taliban.
