KABUL (SW): A number of analysts believe the Taliban aim to silence people’s voice by conducting attacks like the one on Wednesday in which employee of a media group were targeted.
The journalist fraternity, civil society, the government and the international community alike condemned the deadly assault on a van carrying staffers of Tolo TV that saw seven of them dead.
According to Abdul Rahman Rahimi, Kabul Police Chief, the suicide attack on the Dar-ul-Aman road was aimed at the very van carrying Tolo’s employees. Some 28 people have been wounded in this attack.
Shukria Barakzai, leading female member of the Wolesi Jirga said while commenting on this attack that it was a move to silence people’s voice. She expressed confident that such attacks cannot silence the vibrant press of this country and in fact journalist would perform their duty with even more proficiency and zeal.
Shukria urged the government to provide protection for journalist.
Political analyst Ahmad Saeedi believe Wednesday attack on journalist indicate a change of tactic on the part of militants to spread fear among them. He criticized the government for not putting in place precautionary measures despite knowing that such attack was predicted.
Sidiqullah Tauhidi, head of press freedom organization Nai, while condemning the attack on the staffers of Tolo TV said that the journalist fraternity shall adopt a united approach to deal with the threat posed to them.
