SHEBERGHAN (SW): A young man in Jawzjan province who managed to escape from the captivity of the pro-Daesh rebels has narrated the horrific tale of his detention.
In conversation with Salam Watandar, Khuda Dad said he was on his way from Qosh Tapa district to the Darzab district in the province when the armed rebels abducted him and a number of other civilians. He charged these men associated with the militant commander Qari Hekmat for demanding 2 million afghanis as ransom for his release.
The man who managed to flee by risking his life added he was blindfolded at gunpoint and taken by foot to the militants’ private prison. Khuda Dad noted the prisons were established in an underground facility, and one of them was filled with water. The prisoners were regularly persecuted and threatened to death with a sword to their neck. “There was also a human skull in the prison”, he added.
Khuda Dad got lucky one night when the prison guard was asleep, and he managed to snatch his gun and flee to a nearby security check post of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF).
The local authorities acknowledge the existence of the private prison run by the pro-Daesh rebels. Rehmatullah Turkistani, police chief of the province, told Salam Watandar the prison is located in the Ober village in Qosh Tapa district. He also blamed the pro-Daesh militants for killing six and abducting two aid workers associated with the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) here.
