TALOQAN (SW): The unprecedented influx of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from restive Kunduz province combined with the road blockages caused by the Taliban have led to shortages of food supplies in Takhar province.
Sayed Karim Danish, a civil society activist in the Taloqan, provincial capital of Takhar province, has stated that the ongoing fighting in Kunduz combines with the blockage of northeastern Jar-e-Khosk-Baghlan highway by the Taliban have led to the skyrocketing prices of fuel and food items.
Danish mentioned that the approximate number of IDPs reaching Taloqan has reached to 5000.
In the meantime, Yaseen Ziya, the governor for Takhar province, has confirmed that fuel and food prices have increased. He promised to reopen the highway, and address the other problems as soon as possible. He pledged that efforts are underway to relocate the IDPs to a specific area in the next two days.
