PARUN (SW): Fighting continued in north eastern Nuristan province’s Du Aabd district for the second day on Monday as the militants hold siege of the district capital.
Security sources told SW that all check posts in the district, including the district headquarter were under attack. So far, seven armed rebels have been reported dead by the government forces. The rebels attacked the district in the wee hours on Sunday.
Farooq Khan, an officer at the Provincial Police Department claimed situation was under control. Earlier on Sunday, the Provincial Police Chief Khalillulah Ziai said an Afghan National Police (ANP) got killed and another got wounded.
Locals have told SW that the militants searched each and every house in Du Aab’s center and surround areas for government employees. Dr. Qudratullah, head of the public hospital in the district said the militants have also taken away with them hospital’s ambulance.
Over a month ago, Taliban briefly over run the Waigal district in Nuristan that was later reclaimed by the government forces. Some 45 rebels and 18 government forces were killed in that battle.
