KABUL (SW): According to the Ministry of Agriculture, saffron harvesting in the country during the 20 years of investment had reached 3 tons by 2013, but in 2016 the saffron production has surged to 6.5 tons.
Asadullah Zamir, the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL), on the occasion of the opening ceremony of the exhibition of domestic products on Tuesday here in Kabul, said that agricultural products make up to 31 per cent of all products of Afghanistan and saffron harvests is on the arise among all the products. According to the Ministry, saffron production may surge to 8 tons this year.
Abdullah Abdullah, the Chief Executive Officer of the country, addressing the participants of the opening ceremony, stated that traders and farmers of the country have developed well in the processing and packaging of fresh and dried fruits, as well as saffron, and the products of Afghanistan have been able to reach the world's major markets. “The National Unity Government supports traders in agricultural and industrial products”, assured Abdullah.
This exhibition which is held for 1 day in Kabul, dairy, fresh and dried fruits, juices, saffron, oils and herbal medicines; products of several companies are exhibited.
