LASHKARGAH (SW): A suicide car bombing aimed at a convoy of the security forces killed 15 people last night in restive Helmand province.
A well-placed source informed Salam Watandar that the attack took place in Nawa district where the security forces launched massive clean-up operation a day earlier. The source informed that 13 soldiers and 2 civilians died while 19 others got wounded in this attack.
Umar Zwak, spokesman for the governor, informed that the convoy of the Afghan National Army (ANA) was attacked in the Dopla area of the district when the soldiers were busy buying grocery there. He acknowledged the losses sustained by the army, but not state a death toll.
Taliban spokesman Zabehullah Mujahed, has claimed in a statement that ‘heavy losses’ have been inflicted upon the army.
The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) took control of all parts of Nawa district a day earlier over a year after the Taliban first overrun it.
