KABUL (SW): Besides claiming over one hundred lives, Saturday’s brazen suicide car bombing in Kabul also inflicted financial toll worth millions.
According to the initial estimates by the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI), the financial loss inflicted by the blast near the Ministry of Interior compound and the Sadarat Square is over a million dollars. Sayamuddin Pasarlay, spokesman for the ACCI, has said more than 200 shops have been damaged in the Chicken Street and surrounding areas.
Stationary and printing material traders have also bore the brunt of the massive bombing. Ruhullah, one such trader, said he alone has lost goods worth some AFN 450,000 in this attack. Similar scale of loss has been sustained by literally all shopkeepers in the vicinity of the attack.
Mohammad Yosuf Waheb, head of the antique and gemstone traders in the Chicken Street, informed Salam Watandar that members of his alliance have lost up to $ 250,000 due to the blast. He said at least 60 shops got completely demolished and many others witnessed partial damage.
Abdul Salam Rahmani, lawyer for the Union of Industrialists of Afghanistan, informed the assessment of losses have been shared with the President and CEO for compensation.
The traders informed no compensation has been provided to them so far.
