KABUL (SW): The Customs and Revenue Department (CRD) of the Ministry of Finance (MoF) has witnessed a notable 10 per cent increase in its collections during the first six months of this year in comparison to the last year, officials said on Sunday.
Najibullah Wardag, director for the CRD, told a press conference here on Sunday that the target for this year’s collections is AFN 153 billion that is 15 per cent higher than the last year. He informed that last year the CRD collected more than the set target of AFN 132 billion, and this year the collections are higher than the set target as well.
He said up to AFN 76.5 billion have been collected by the CRD in first six months of this year so far that represent nearly 10 per cent rise in comparison to the last year. He associated this increase in revenue with reforms in the revenue collection system, appointment of qualified people in the CRD and simplification of the revenue collection.
The MoF officials said on the occasion that up to AFN 102 billion have been collected by the CRD till last week of this month in 2017.
Najibullah Wardag said the CRD does not have serious issues with large scale tax payers, but problems remain with medium and lower level tax payers.
